Content Description
Those from Humphry are despondent at the presence in Lucknow of
Zoffany, and that he and
Charles Smith are painting the Nabob at the same time. He gives details of the financial settlement to be reached. Those from Magnus and Macpherson are full of encouragement and assure Humphry that he shall not be the loser financially. Humphry's final letter to Harper makes it clear that he believed Macpherson had committed himself to pay compensation and proposes to sell the Nabob's bond at a loss rather than allow Macpherson to suffer by his promise.
