Hamlet's painting, 'Baccus and Ariadne' by Titian was one of a number of works in private hands borrowed by the RA in 1816 at the time of the opening of the School of Painting. Other works came from Dulwich College. The wording of the letter of request sent to owners is recorded in the minutes of meeting of the Council of 12 July 1816. A copy was made of the painting while it was at the RA [http://www.arenski.com/products/1304.html].
