Content Description

Serres has begun that day to drink the waters. His friend the Col. is going home for the season, but is going to introduce him to a gentleman of fortune who is a great lover of the arts, and paints himself: a most agreeable, worthy man, whom he hoped would be of service to Serres. Serres had had dealings with a man who kept a shop selling painters' supplies, who had discovered a varnish that he says is equal to Lucas. Serres concludes by sending his love to their children, and his compliments to friends. He adds details of his address - very near the pump room - in a postscript, and enquires about the result of the election of the Secretary [of the Royal Academy.]
