Content Description

Hamilton tells Townley that he is sending him a copy of the inscription that indicates where all the best pieces of sculpture were kept, and afterwards given to the municipality of Gabii: chiefly statues of the Roman emperors down to the time of Caracalla and Geta. Hamilton had found many other fragments, but they were so small as to be useless. When he had done with the Gabii, he proposed to try the Colonna or ancient Labicum, where he hoped to make great discoveries.
