James White, Exeter, to Ozias Humphry, Prince of Wales Hotel, Sloane Street, Knightsbridge
The illness and death of one relation and two friends has prevented him from writing sooner. He was fascinated to read of
Mr. West's visit to Bath, and his observations, also the account of West's historical picture of
King Bladud. He does not recall any old master taking on the animals required for this subject, other than
Salvator.
He is delighted that
Nollekens is to tackle the sculpture of
Mr. Pitt, he thinks Nollekens will rise and produce something worthy of
Roubiliac. He hopes that the bronze of the
Duke of Bedford will be in erected in one of the "new squares" before his next visit to London. He asks to be remembered to
Mr. Towne and hopes his new way of life agrees with him.
