Read at meeting of Council of 23 April 1786, and the resolution passed that the Council had no objection to receiving Bacon's work, providing that the word "chimney piece" be dropped in favour of some other description, and that Bacon consult with
Sir William Chambers about the safety of the work being in the middle of the room.
Content Description
Concerning his proposal to exhibit a sculpture in marble of two nymphs holding a festoon of flowers over a sleeping Cupid and the doubts over its admission he had caused by describing the work simply as a "chimney piece".
