Stating that he was sending his index to the papers of the Society of Artists [SA/22] in accordance with a resolution of the general meeting of 5 December 1774, and describing how the index was made. Hamilton explains that papers marked "W", "T" were received from
[William] Thomson and the others from
[Henry] Spicer, for which he had issued a general receipt, as the papers were in a state of great confusion. He also mentions other records, which he may have omitted from the index. Hamilton concludes by explaining that he will not be able to contribute to the Society's exhibition because of ill health, and expresses his respect for the body.
