Following receipt of a letter from the Secretary stating that his breach of the rule against Fellows of the Society of Artists exhibiting with any other body was to be heard at a general meeting that evening, Peters explains why he had exhibited a picture at the Royal Academy in Pall Mall. Peters states that he acted in accordance with the wishes of the Duke of Ancaster, and that he was encouraged by assurances from
[Edward] Burch and
[Joseph] Wright. He also rebuts allegations by "some infamous men" that he had solicited to be made a member of the RA, but was refused. However, he concludes by recommending his own expulsion.
