Content Description

He stresses his dislike of writing; Genl. Brownrigg has gone to Ceylon, although he has promised to paint him a copy of his portrait of the Duke of York and so is hopeful their aim (William's promotion) is still achievable; Andrew [Lawrence] is being secret about his affairs; he continues to talk of the family, "I have much of my Father's carelessness with a torpor of constitution that is dreadfully against exertion", but he works hard and now believes that next to Mr. West he is first in his profession; he is working on a picture of Kemble as Cato, he admires Kemble in the role and elaborates on his reason for doing so; he is also painting Lyttelton and quotes a piece of his wit.
