Summary Note

Several plates carry publication-dates - of 1742 (pl. 8, 9), 1748 (pl. 2-5) or 1750 (pl.6).

The plates are listed on the verso of the title page as portraits of: 1. King Henry VII and his Queen Elizabeth; King Henry VIII and his Queen Jane Seymour; 2. Arthur, Henry and Margaret, children of Henry VII; 3. Mary Queen of France, sister of Henry VIII and her second husband Charles Brandon; 4. their daughter, Frances, Duchess of Suffolk and her second husband Adrian Stock; 5. Lady Jane Gray; 6. Edward VI; 7. the cenotaph of Henry Lord Darnley; 8. battle of Carbery Hill; 9. Queen Elizabeth.

Two of the portraits are stated to be by Hans Holbein (pl. 1, 6); one by John Maubeugius [Jan Gossaert] (pl. 2); one by Lucas de Heere (pl. 4); one by 'Levinus Venetianus' (pl. 7). The rest are by unnamed painters.
