Responsibility Note

All plates are signed as drawn by V. Green and engraved by R. Hancock, apart from the fifteenth, which is signed as drawn and engraved by I. Taylor (probably Isaac Taylor the elder (1730-1807), possibly his brother James (1737/8-1790)). Several carry the imprint of the publisher and bookseller, S. Gamidge.

The work is dedicated by Valentine Green to James, Lord Bishop of Worcester.

Summary Note

This is one of Valentine Green's first publications. In Worcester he had been apprenticed to the engraver Robert Hancock. About 1766 he moved to London, and shortly afterwards began to produce the mezzotints for which he is best known.
