Summary Note

Most plates show men and women in the religious orders of the Roman Catholic Church. A few show Catholic or Orthodox clergy, or persons of non-Christian religions. R. Colas and Lipperheide state that the plates are copies of those of J.-C. Bar, Recueil de tous les costumes des ordres religieux et militaires (Paris, 1778-93). The plates are coloured by hand.
