Summary Note
No author is named, but the dedication is signed by Titiano Vecellio Pittore, presumably the distant relation of Titian, who published in 1622 his Vita del insigne Tiziano Vecellio. This Tiziano Vecellio is sometimes known as Tizianello. He may have prepared this Compendio specially for Lady Arundel, who was in Italy in 1613-14 (with her husband and Inigo Jones) and again in 1620-25, and who tried to persuade Tizianello to accompany her to Britain.
The portrait is captioned 'Titianus Veccellius Cadubriensis Pictor Et Æques Cæs'.
Provenance
The verso of the title-page is stamped, 'Soc. Reg. Lond ex dono Henr. Howard Norfolciensis.'
Copy Note
A rear leaf is inscribed in ink several times 'La vita di Tiziano di Cadore'. The portrait of Titian is inscribed in pencil, 'Odoardo Fialetti pinxt'.
Binding Note
19th-century white vellum; spine lettered 'Vita Di Titiano' and 'R.A.'
