According to Hazen, there were three distinct editions dated 1753, all with identical wording on the titlepage. This is the first edition, identified by the half-title: 'Drawings, &c.'.
The poems are printed and foliated on the recto only. The 'Explanation of the prints', by Horace Walpole, is printed on both the recto and verso.
'The book is properly regarded as a landmark in the history of English book-illustration' (Hazen). 'A Long Story' is printed here for the first time, and the 'Explanation of the Prints' is by Horace Walpole.
[2] 36 [2] leaves (all printed on rectos only), half-title, engraved title-vignette, 6 plates, 6 head- and tailpieces and 6 initial figures, all by J. S. Müller or Charles Grignion after Richard Bentley.
