Each carries the printer's imprint, 'Gedr. bei dem Herausgeber' (or similar). The portrait of Hanfstaengl in Volume III carries the imprint, 'Verlag von C. Naumann in Dresden und in Commission bei Rudolph Weigel in Leipzig.'
Some in-text illustrations in Volume I are signed as made by Adolph Menzel.

Summary Note
The publication-date of 1836 is given on the title page; but in Volume I some plates carry the dates, 1835, 1836, 1837, 1838, 1839, 1840, in Volume II one plate carries the date 1838, and in Volume III one plate carries the date 1840. Originally published in 60 numbers, the work was not in fact completed until 1843. Some in-text illustrations in Volume I carry the dates of 1839 or 1840. The Royal Academy's copy is bound in three volumes, but there are no title pages for volumes II and III and the pagination of all three volumes is continuous.
The text is printed in German and French in parallel.

2 November 1837: 'Produced Specimens of a Lithographic Publication by T. Hanfstaingl [sic] from Pictures in the Dresden Gallery - Resolved that the Academy retain the first 5 Numbers sent for their approbation at 1 Guinea [each] number and that they subscribe for a Proof Copy of the remainder of the Work.' (RA Council Minutes, VIII, 364).
30 January 1839: Payment of £3 'for 2 nos. of the Dresden Gallery' to Dominic Colnaghi & Co. shows price had by then increased to £1.10s. per number (see RA Council Minutes, IX, p.6).
