The work is dedicated to Gian Gastone, Grand Duke of Tuscany by the 'Auctores Editionis'.

The 'Index Gemmarum' lists them in the groupings, 1. emperors, famous men; 2. kings, queens, heroes; 3. philosophers, orators, poets, muses; 4. divinities.
