Responsibility Note
The title-plate is signed as engraved by Ia. Blondeau. The frontispiece is signed as designed and drawn by Io. Bapta. Mannellius and engraved by Nicolaus Laigniel. Most other plates are unsigned, but some are signed by draughtsmen (F. Bufalinus, L. Nuvolonus, 'RD', or D. Barriere) and/or engravers (Gio. Colin, N. Belin, G.F. Venturini, V. Mariotti, G.B. Falda, V. Regnartius, D. Barriere).
Several plates carry the publisher's imprint.
The ded ication to Cardinal Gaspare Carpegna from Jo. Jacobus de Rubeis, the publisher, is incorporated in the title-plate.

Summary Note
This collection of plates was put together by its publishers from earlier sources. Most plates (20, 28-30, 36, 39, 43-46, 48-50, 54, 58-61, 63-71) are from the series of engravings by V. Regnart published in Rome by F. Collignon in 1650 without a title (but known as 'Praecipua urbis templa'). Plate 72 is a reprint of a plate published separately by De' Rossi ca. 1660 to mark the completion of S. Maria della Pace in 1659. Shortly after publishing this book, the publisher issued the companion Disegni di vari altari e capelle nelle chiese di Roma.
The plates show elevations, sections and plans of 16th- and 17th-century Roman churches, with captions identifying them and their architects (with occasional misattributions). They include work by Carlo Maderno, G. della Porta, F. da Volterra, the Longhi family, G.B. Soria and others.
