Responsibility Note
The frontispiece portrait of Stothard is signed as painted by Harlow and lithographed by R.J. Lane. It carries the lithographic printers' imprint of M. & N. Hanhart.
Several in-text illustrations are signed, as originally designed by Stothard and drawn by 'GS' (one is drawn by Stothard after Cibber), and as engraved by J. Thompson, S. Williams, Jackson, Sharpe, J. Stothard or W.I. Green.
The text printer is named on the verso of the title page and in the colophon: '(London:) Bradbury And Evans, Printers (Extraordinary To The Queen), Whitefriars.'

Summary Note
From 1818 to 1821 Mrs. Bray had been married to Thomas Stothard's son, Charles Alfred (1786-1821). This account of her former father-in-law praises him as one of the foremost history-painters of his day and one of its most prolific illustrators.
The frontispiece shows a portrait of Thomas Stothard by Harlow. The many in-text illustrations show works by Stothard, published and unpublished. The portrait is a lithograph; most in-text illustrations are printed in sepia.
