General Note
At head of the title on the title-page, 'Oeuvres de Ennius Quirinus Visconti'. This work is a French translation of the Italian work (1782-1807) begun by Giambattista Antonio Visconti but almost entirely the work of his son, Ennio Quirino Visconti. A 'Notice biographique de Ennio Quirino Visconti, rédigée par M.r Jean Labus' appears in volume 1, pages 19-55, and the frontispiece of volume I is a portrait of Visconti, who died the year this translation began to be published. The work is a catalogue of the classical sculpture and antiquities in the Vatican's Museo Pio-Clementino. Printer statement on the verso of each title-page: Milan, De l'Inprimerie et Donderie de Jean-Joseph Destefanis, à S. Zeno, N.o 534.
Provenance
On the top right of the title-pages of Volumes I-IV appears the signature in ink of B.[enjamin] R.[obert] Haydon; in Volume I the signature is accompanied by the date, 1827.
On the upper right corner of the recto of the flyleaf of each of the seven volumes is found the signature in ink, E. S. Newton.
On the upper right corner of the recto of the flyleaf of Volume I, below the signature of E. S. Newton appears the sognature in pencil of' Geo Redford'.
