Summary Note

The main part of the book is a reprint of an address by Andrea Bianchini 'In Causa Veneficii Commissi In Personam Olim Dominae Elisabeth Siranae', first published 'Bononiae, Typis Iacobi Montij. 1666', and printed here in Latin, with a parallel Italian translation. When Sirani died at the early age of 27 after suffering acute stomach-pains, poisoning was suspected. A maidservant was tried and acquitted.

The plate shows Elisabetta Sirani seated and painting, within an elaborate tabernacle. The illustrations are chiefly portraits.

Binding Note

19th-century green cloth-covered boards; spine lettered 'Bianchi E. Sirani Bologna - 1854' and 'R.A.'
