Summary Note
No publication-date is carried by the plates. But perhaps the present work derives from the Recueil de plusieurs figures d'Académie, dessinées d'après nature par François Verdier, peintre ordinaire du Roy, engraved and published in 1747 by Nicolas de Poilly the younger.
All but one of the plates are captioned, and show: 1.[uncaptioned: a kneeling, blind [?] man, tied to a wall] [this plate also carries the title of the set as a whole]; 2. A River or Water God; 3. Hercules; 4. Jupiter; 5. Pan; 6. Atlas.
François Verdier worked chiefly under Charles Le Brun, painting and designing both Christian and classical subjects.
Binding Note
19th-century half calf, brown cloth-covered boards; spine lettered 'Boucher & Verdier. Costumes & Acady. Figures' and 'R.A.' Bound with two others.
