The essays in this volume were originally issued in 21 weekly, separately paginated numbers from 14 March to 1 August 1807. [A second series in 20 weekly numbers - not held by the RA library - was first published in 1809 and reissued in combination with a reprint of the first series in 1810.] The printer statement is found at the foot of the last page (p. 20) of the final essay, 'Mercier and Co. Printers, / King's Head Court, St. Paul's Church Yard.'

New half-calf binding over marbled paper-boards (Anthony Wessely, October 1990 £35.00). Pencil rubbing of earlier spine loosely inserted. Spine title in gilt lettering on dark brown leather label, 'The / Artist / - / Prince / Hoare'.
