Summary Note
In this edition the plates appear to be reproduced from the first English edition, 1724, as three carry the date of 1724 and three that of 1723.
The work was first published in Spanish in Mexico in 1684; and was soon translated into other languages (French 1691, Italian 1699, English 1724). Hooke's revision of Townsend's English translation was first published in 1738.
The eight plates show (Volume I) Cortés (portrait); Cortés meeting King Montezuma II; Mexico (map); Mexico City (map); Mexico City (view); great temple in Mexico City; (Volume II) Spanish brigantines engaging Mexican canoes; King Guatimozin captured by Holguin.
