Summary Note
The work describes the frescoes of famous men and women commissioned from Andrea del Castagno by Filippo Carducci for the Villa Carducci at Legnaia, Florence; which Castagno made between 1449 and 1451. The paintings were removed in 1850 and are now in the Uffizi gallery, Florence.
The plates are outline drawings, and carry Latin captions naming the persons shown: three Florentine commanders (Filippo Ispano degli Scolari, Farinata degli Uberti, Nicolao Acciaioli), three women (the Cumaean Sibyl, Queen Esther, Queen Tomiris) and three Italian poets (Dante, Petrarch, Boccaccio).
