Summary Note
These twenty four plates are part of a group of thirty-two (twenty after Turner and twelve after Buckler) which had first been published serially under the title, History of Richmondshire, by Dr. Thomas Whitaker between 1818 and 1823.
The 'List of Subjects' lists twenty-four titles; the plates are also captioned. They show: [1] Crook of Lune, looking towards Hornby Castle; [2] Ingleborough, from Hornby Castle Terrace; [3] Hornby Castle, from Tatham Church; [4] Kirkby Lonsdale Churchyard; [5] Heysham and Cumberland Mountains; [6] Weathercote Cave; [7] Gateway at Lancaster Castle; [8] Sizergh Hall; [9] Peel castle; [10] Furness Abbey; [11] Aysgarth; [12] Simmer Lake; [13] Hardraw Fall; [14] Mossdale Fall; [15] Marrick Abbey; [16] Wycliffe; [17] Brignall; [18] Junction of the Greta and the Tees at Rokeby; [19] Egglestone Abbey; [20] Tees High Force; [21] Aske Hall; [22] St. Agatha's Abbey, Easby; [23] Richmond Town; [24] Richmond Castle and Town. The one in-text illustration (in the text relating to Heysham, pl. [5]) shows a Saxon tomb.

19th-century half red morocco, red cloth-covered boards, upper cover lettered 'Views In Lancashire And Yorkshire. By J.M.W. Turner. R.A.'; rebacked in 20th century, retaining earlier blind-stamped spine-piece with green morocco spine-label lettered 'Views In Lancashire And Yorkshire - J.M.W. Turner - 1872'.
