Engraver, especially of portraits in mezzotint. Worked in London for print-publishers Richard Palmer, Edward Cooper, Alexander Browne, Pierce Tempest, Isaac Beckett, Grace Beckett; from 1692 he published his own plates (from rented rooms in the Lion and Crown in Russell Street, Covent Garden). He was closely associated with Sir Godfrey Kneller; to whom he dedicated his translation of Le Brun’s lecture on the representation of the passions.
