Bookseller, publisher, stationer, active in London 1728-1738. Was an apprentice to the publisher Jonah Bowyer until 1727 when he set up on his own. Publisher of the Dunciad in 1729 from which time he became Alexander Pope’s regular publisher for the next eight years. Addresses: Homer’s Head, o/a St Dunstan’s Ch., Fleet St.; Westminster Hall; Oxford Arms, Warwick La. Traded as Gilliver & Clarke 1736-9.
