RA Collection: People and Organisations
Most sources, such as Grove Dictionary of Art, Benezit and earlier editions of the Dictionary of National Biography state that Westall was born in Herford, Hertfordshire. However, Richard J. Westall in his biographical entry for Richard Westall in the 2004 edition of the DNB says that this is incorrect and that he was born in Reepham, Norfolk and was baptized at All Saints’, Norwich, where his father was a churchwarden, on 13 January 1765.
