Son of the printer Thomas Way (1837-1915). Thomas Robert Way was instrumental in the revival of lithography in Britain. He introduced the technique of lithography to Whistler in 1878 and collaborated on his Venice Etchings for the 1880 Fine Art Society Exhibition. From 1884 he printed Whistler’s lithographs and eventually compiled a catalogue which was published in 1896. He also worked as an illustrator and poster designer, producing lithographs for London Transport from 1910 to 1913. [Benezit Dictionary of Artists]
