Photographer. A member of the 'Linked Ring' Hollyer (1838-1933) chiefly photographed works of art as a living though he also made many portraits of those artists he knew through his work. Initially he used the wet collodion on large 24" x 18" plates and un-glazed salted paper to print on. Later he used platinotype paper and a limited range of tones which were much praised at the time. His sitters including Edward Burne-Jones, Frederic Leighton and G.F. Watts, were informally posed in simple settings with gentle lighting. Hollyer was also a member of the R.P.S., the Solar Club and the Professional Photographers' Association. He retired in 1913.
Pritchard lists a studio at 8 Bartholomew Villas, Kensington, Kentish Town,(1869) though Hollyer's main output was from his studio at 9 Pembroke Square from 1873.
