Printers founded in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1864 by Robert Clark (d. 1894). Originally based 13 George Street, then moving to larger premises at 42 Hanover Street and finally to Brandon Street. The firm printed the works of both Robert Louis Stevenson and Sir Walter Scott and the important reference work Who’s Who for fifty years.
In 1946, the ownership of the company was gifted to the University of Edinburgh. In 1962 it was taken over by the Thyne Group and then, after a management buy-out in 1979 became part of the ill-fated ClarkConstable merger which ceased trading a few years later.
