Samuel Woodburn (1783-1853) and Allen Woodburn took over the business from their father John Woodburn from 1817. The younger brother, Allen Woodburn (1786-1851), seems to have been responsible for the framing activities of the business. Samuel Woodburn was the principal art dealer of his time and one of the greatest nineteenth-century experts on Old Master Drawings.
