This cast is taken from an original object in the Museo Pio-Clementino in the Sala a Croce,. A modillion is an ornate bracket underneath a cornice which help support the structure. This particular modillion is highly ornate, decorated with a large oak leaf with numerous lobes and acorns as well as scrolling vines and flowers on the sides.
It is not known where this modillion came from but most scholars believe it was from an ancient classical building.
