Thomas Rowlandson (1757 - 1827)
RA Collection: Art
The etching depicts men in a gaming house. In the background the players sitting at a gambling table gasp as a man with his hand in the air drops dice, which are shown in mid-air. There are numerous spectators standing around the table and in the left foreground a group of disgruntled losers gathers by the fire.
The print was in the collection of the artist Carel Weight RA. Weight bequeathed it to the Royal Academy along with some other works by Rowlandson, including a study for the etching (08/3905).
