The photograph shows the gallery which Watts had built at his house at No.6 Melbury Road in 1881. On the walls behind the seated figure of Watts can be seen the paintings: 'Lady Lindsay (of Balcarres)', with violin, 'Britomart and her Nurse' and to the right 'The Meeting of Jacob and Esau'. On the floor is 'Cardinal Manning', the Duke of Devonshire's portrait and 'Paolo and Francesca'.
