Philip Reinagle RA, Portrait of Maria Reinagle

Portrait of Maria Reinagle, by 1833, probably ca. 1790s

Philip Reinagle RA (1749 - 1833)

RA Collection: Art

This miniature portrait shows the head and shoulders of a girl. The drawing is in pencil but the hairband, eyes and some of the face is coloured slightly with watercolour. According to the inscription this is a portrait of Maria or Marcia Reinagle. It is possible that this refers to Philip Reinagle's daughter Mary Anne (b.1778). Alternatively it could be a sister or niece of his; Philip Reinagle had three brothers - it is not known whether he had any sisters.
