This print was Gertrude Hermes' last substantial wood-engraving. It was first published in 1963 (the date inscribed on this print) in an edition of 30. This impression is part of a later edition, published in the 1981 Printmakers' Council Portfolio. This portfolio comprised original prints by ten members of the PMC, and was issued in an edition of 75, with eight APs. Judith Russell, in her catalogue of Hermes' wood-engravings, estimates there are also 'about 70 unsigned proofs' of the print.
