RA Collection: Art

Malvasia's Felsina Pittrice is a history of painting traced through the Bolognese school, written consciously in the wake of other 'artists' lives' books such as Vasari's Vite. Malvasia provided a challenge to Vasari's Tuscan-centric art history by placing Bolognese artists at the fore; it is one of the most important early modern sources on Italian art.
