Watercolour study after Van Dyck's portrait of Thomas Killigrew and Lord William Crofts, 1638

Solomon Alexander Hart RA (April 1806 - 1881) and After Anthony Van Dyck (1599 - 1641)

RA Collection: Art

These drawings and watercolours are all copied from Old Master paintings. Many of them date from Solomon Hart's visit to Italy (1841-1842), where he drew from frescoes and paintings in Florence, Venice, Perugia and Rome. However, some copies after Titian and others were made at the Louvre in Paris in 1845. Hart also made small copies after Renaissance paintings at the National Gallery and Dulwich Portrait Gallery in London, and drew from prints after Holbein and other artists.
