He is pleased she has met with Mr. Allen and hopes she will not have to re-write Princess Lydia. He ponders whether it was George Allen, whom John Ruskin "took a fancy too" and established in business.

The Abbey's want him to stay another there months, he will have nothing but Lady Clare to send to the Academy, although he hopes to "get famous" by the next year. Discusses his financial situation. Abbey has more commissions than he knows what to do with and is mulling over whether to accept the task of supplying Pennsylvania with a series of large canvases; he now gets £140 a drawing from Harper's Magazine.
