He agrees with much of the initial account of the matter given by Yonge, that he sought to paint the
Prince and
Princess without reward and that he wished to have the pictures engraved. But when Yonge relinquished his claim on the pictures Humphry immediately suspected that it was because the Prince and Princess wanted the pictures for themselves or friends. This was also suggested by the fact that their R.H.s selected their own dress for the portraits, which is not the usual practice in these matters.
