Restored, in which it is argued that Stonehenge was erected not by ancient Britons during pre-historic times but during the period when Britain was part of the Roman Empire, was first published in 1655. W. Charleton's rebuttal, Chorea Gigantum, was first published in 1663; Webb's attempted Vindication of Jones, in 1665. The text attributed to Inigo Jones was compiled by John Webb from a few of Jones's notes.
